Sunday Reads: simple summers, grilled short ribs, macarons, luau party, butterfly gardens

I have family in town all weekend, so I’m not doing much blog reading today! But I’ve been gathering up some helpful, inspiring posts perfect for kicking off the summer and enjoying over a long holiday weekend. Enjoy: 

  • Simplify Summer – {Boston Mamas.} Some sound ideas, relevant to our discussion from Your Turn Thursday!
  • Korean Grilled Short Ribs – {The Frugal Girl.} In case you’re still looking for Memorial Day dinner ideas!
  • French Macarons and French Maracon Filling – {Sweetney.} Yes please.
  • Five Years Luau Party – {Enjoying The Small Things.} You all know I keep birthdays simple. That’s why, in my interview with Kelle Hampton the other week, I told her I so appreciate her posting pictures of the lovely parties she throws her girls – so I don’t have to do it myself! Seriously, there is plenty of inspiration and lots of do-able ideas to draw from here, even if my end result wouldn’t look quite the same. I don’t do big birthday parties, but could I be convinced to throw a fun midsummer shindig for the kids? Maybe, just maybe.

And in case gardening is on your long-weekend agenda, I thought you might enjoy some of my most recent HGTVGardens posts:

  • Beat seasonal allergies in the garden. I don’t know why, but this has been a terrible year for my allergies, which up until a year or two ago were non-existent. I really needed to research and write this one!
  • Beautiful front-yard veggie gardens. If your house, like mine, is situated so that the front yard is more suitable for veggie gardening than the back, let this round-up inspire you!
  • Gardening makes you happy. If this was already obvious to you, now you’ve got the evidence to back it up.
  • Butterfly gardens in containers. If you want to attract butterflies but don’t have much yard space, here are some scaled-back solutions.

    Thanks for the link! And I gotta say, I’m like you when it comes to parties…I think the sort Kelle throws are really awesome, but I know I’ll probably never, ever do that. And I’m ok with it. :) We all have different things we’re good at.
