One of my secrets of holiday happiness is keeping traditions limited to a handful that are easy to manage and fun for everyone. But no matter how much we scale back, one thing happens every year – our Christmas Eve pajama/family gift tradition.
It goes like this: every Christmas Eve, after we return from church services and an annual post-church pizza dinner with my brother and his family, we unwrap just a few gifts from under the tree: holiday pajamas, a treat (usually chocolate-drizzled popcorn from a shop downtown) and a family activity, like a board game or puzzle.
As the kids run upstairs to put on their new jammies, I make cocoa and set up the game. We then play a round or two in our PJs, checking in frequently with the NORAD Santa Tracker, until it’s time for all the young folk to scurry off to bed and for Jon and I to start the preparations.
I love our PJ tradition! It’s cozy and snuggly and when the kids get up in the morning, they all look cute and put-together for photos (which is way more than we could say on a typical morning.)
Usually, I’d just buy the kids’ pajamas from Target or whatever we happened to be, but this year my friend Jessica asked if she could send me some cute holiday PJs on behalf of her client, Sara’s Prints.
I was so impressed by the Sara’s Prints pajamas! First of all, they’re adorable. In addition to the holiday PJs I got for the three younger kids, pictured above, Clara received a set of horse PJs (with a detachable tail!), a Chevron striped set and a ruffled pink-and-white striped nightgown, which she thinks is so comfy she sometimes – shh – hangs out in them all day. Who could blame her for dozing off while watching PBS Kids?
In addition to being cute and comfy as can be, the pajamas are really well-made. The fabric is thick and soft, and the PJs are generously sized and sturdy. Clara’s nightgown keeps her legs well covered and there’s plenty of room to grow.

My daughter is just turning 3 next week so we never had a tradition with her. I actually saw the Christmas Eve new pajama tradition on Pinterest. We were going to start that this year. New jammies, hot cocoa, popcorn and a new holiday movie, now that she’s old enough to understand and enjoy the tradition

These jammies look so cute! We’re just starting to experiment with holiday traditions since our kids are 2-1/2 and 1 but it has been fun to make some simple Christmas ornaments with my daughter this year. She loves the craft time and “Mama time” while her brother is napping and it gives me a chance to explain the true meaning of Christmas to her at her level of understanding.
Christmas Eve pajamas were a tradition in my family when I was little, and I have continued it with my own children. I love the idea of adding a board game to the tradition as well.
One of my favourite traditions is getting together with my parents (Nana and Granddad to my kids) and watching a Christmas movie while eating fresh baked scones from a local bakery – complete with real cream and high quality jam! We usually try to do it after we’ve been outside in the cold – so this weekend we are going to a local provincial park where they do an old fashioned Christmas, and will have the scones when we get back to my parents’ house.
Such cheery and festive PJs! I’d say enjoying hot cocoa, holiday lights, and our own tree with some Christmas tunes is a favorite holiday tradition of ours,
My daughter has decided that we both will be wearing our polar bear pajamas (not the same, but with polar bears), but I think some of Sara’s prints are cuter!

We have a Christmas PJs tradition, as well as a new one we have recently started – PJ day on Christmas. We don’t rush to go anywhere, we don’t worry about whether someone comes over. We stay in our PJs all day. And it is fabulous.
Growing up, my Grandma would get my sister and my cousins all the same pj’s. We would indulge her and take a picture next to the fireplace each year. I would love to start that tradition again with my kids and my sister’s kids.
As a mom of a 15 month and nearly 2 month old, we are just beginning to nail down our traditions, but I just might adopt your PJ tradition!!! So fun! As a Floridian transplanted in Illinois I am always looking for ways to keep warm and snuggly:)
As for our own traditions we do have one that my family always did and my husband and I did before kiddos and now with kiddos and that is tromping out in the woods to acquire the perfect Christmas tree!!! Yesterday we ventured out with the two of them. Little Henry was snugged right inside the Bjorn in daddy’s jacket and I had Cora! Never worrying a bit about Cora I was so concerned about Henry being warm enough! Well, 5 minutes into the trek and Cora’s gloved hands were frozen, and she screamed the whole way back to the car, and an hour after we got home until her fingers thawed….eek….Henry you ask?……sound asleep even while dad had him slung sideways while cutting down the tree! Hilarious!!!!
We usually did PJs and a game at our house, too – so excited for my girls to be getting old enough for those traditions at our house!
I love the idea of new PJ’s on Christmas Eve…my oldest is 3 so this is the first Christmas she’s really been attuned to the whole idea of Christmas. We started our first advent calendar and I hung up some decorations from etsy this week. I also like the idea of having that extra Christmas pop for morning pictures!

Really cute! I have already started the tradition of new pjs at Christmas, although we don’t always wait until Christmas Eve to break them in. It’s fun to wear them all month long, and where we live winter pjs often get packed away soon after Christmas.

My favorite tradition is having a relaxed Christmas Day. After all the busyness of December and a late night on Christmas Eve, we relax, open presents, have brunch, and of course, stay in jammies!

We go to a fancy party on Christmas Eve and my girls will be all dressed up. BUT on Christmas Day, we open presents here at our house and then travel (in our pjs) to my mom’s house, or my mom comes here (in HER pjs!). My Dad comes too, but he prefers to shower and get dressed! ?

Growing up we always got new PJ’s for Christmas and that was something we would open Christmas Eve. I have been buying PJ’s for my step-daughter since the beginning of our relationship. Our boys are just now turning old enough that I hope to start that tradition next year with them (or this year if we win).
I love the idea of new pajamas on Christmas Eve night! We let the kids open ONE gift (of our choosing) that night, but they receive their Christmas pajamas in their stockings from Santa. You don’t realize what a big difference these things make until you’re having a conversation about what they’re excited about for Christmas morning and they mention their new pajamas! I love your tradition, too, though, because that’s something you can still do (playing a game) once they’re much bigger and it will still feel special to them. Merry Christmas!
I know a lot of people don’t like it, but I like elf on the shelf. Our elf arrives Dec 1 each year and the kids LOVE finding him each morning – sometimes that’s the only motivation to get my first grader out of bed on cold Dec mornings! Our elf is not mischievous and over-the-top creative (more power to those parents, but that’s not my thing!) – he moves to a new spot to hang out each day and maybe does 1-2 creative (not messy) thibgs each year. With extended family we also have a tradition of a holly jolly fun run early each Dec. Everyone wears Christmasy clothes and we do a 1.5-3 mile fun run/walk/stroller ride, followed by a potluck brunch. Good fun for all!
Since our children are getting older, we go to dinner with the whole extended family at a local Chinese restaurant on Christmas eve, then midnight service, and then drive by a house in the next town over that has enough exterior Christmas decorations to fill a city. It’s amazing and each year she adds more crazy decorations. It always makes me smile.
I grew up with a Christmas Eve pj tradition but I haven’t done it with my boys. I’d love to get a set of these adorable jammies for them!

For the past few years, I have been doing a Christmas activity calendar with my kids. Most of the stuff is very simple, but it gets me to actually do the stuff I’d like to do with them.
We do fondue at my mom’s house on Christmas eve!

I love the Christmas pajamas it has been something I have done since my oldest daughter (age 5) have always tried doing it for my three kids Alexis (she is 4) and Anthony is 15 months My mom always got us Christmas pajamas growing up and since she passed away it is an important tradition to me. This year things have been very hard and I am having to cut down a lot. this would be a wonderful way to continue an important tradition

We have a candlelit dinner after setting up the tree, using Christmas candles. Nothing fancy, but festive.
We always get new pajamas for Christmas Eve and starting last year our elf brought them to kids and me:) We also love to go to a farm each year to cut a tree and also make a Happy Birthday Jesus cake to eat on Christmas. I love traditions and know how much joy they bring to a family!

New pajamas on Christmas Eve has been a tradition in my family since I was born. Now that I am the mama, I have carried this on with my kids too and love picking out cute and comfortable pajamas for them to snuggle up in on those cold winter nights.
I’m Jewish (my husband is not) so I didn’t even know Christmas pajamas were a “thing”. a few years ago, when the youngest was out of onesies, I got the two of them matching PJs for one night of Hanukkah. Now it’s a family thing, although Hanukkah came too early this year so the PJs will, in fact, be given on Christmas (at my in-law’s).
I’ll be honest, sometimes I miss my pre-Christmas-being-in-my-life tradition of a movie and takeout Chinese food.
I’m actually super excited to keep the Christmas jammies tradition going with my new son and my two year old daughter.

We get together with family every Christmas Eve and I’d love for my kids and their cousins to get snuggly in their pajamas instead of their Christmas best!
On Christmas Eve, we pile into the car (wearing our pjs) and drive around looking at the Christmas lights in surrounding neighborhoods.
The kids are still young enough that we haven’t developed too many of our own yet, but we do have some sugar cookie baking planned, as well as driving around to see all the lights.

My 5 year old surprised me this evening and told me to ask Santa for Christmas PJ’s. “Are you sure you want pajamas and not the Stack Tracks you’ve been begging me for?” He says “I love Christmas pajamas!” with a big grin on his face. lol
