Last October, I interviewed Amanda Soule of SouleMama and Erin Dunlevy of Swonderland about how they make their houses into homes – complete with photos, of course! Since I have quite a few new readers this year, I thought I’d post links to the interviews – they’re really inspiring and just pretty to look at.

From Amanda:
“However ‘temporary’ a space may be – a college dorm room, a rented apartment, or a camping site! – I’ve always had an urge to make it “home’ for the time we are there. For me, that means cozy, and warm. A place where people can comfortably gather. A place that invites both celebratory joy and excitement and peaceful calm when that’s needed.”
And from Erin:
I personally find keeping my home together and decorated to be rather therapeutic. When I was in school I always had to clean my bedroom before I did my homework and I am the same way now, like my brain just works better when there aren’t toys on the floor and the surfaces are clutter-free and the walls are full of things that inspire me. I find that my kids play better in a clean house, as well.

Lovely! I hope to be able to achieve that one of these days. Baguette is so active, and so unwilling to nap, that it’s very hard to get much done when she’s at home. My solution is to take occasional days off from work, so that I can tackle a room while she’s in day care. It’s slow, and my first attempt taught me that my goal should not be more than one room at a time-but I feel good about having cleaned and organized her room, and am looking forward to doing ours in two weeks.

Amazing! I really hope to have your luck one day. But how all these ideas jump in your mind? What is your inspiration?
I totally agree with Erin – I can’t work unless the space around me is tidy. I always clean up downstairs before bed, and I tidy up the bedroom in the morning (my baby sleeps in my room, so I can’t at night…). I don’t even go in my step daughter’s room anymore, it is so messy!
My husband is super messy, and I think I’ve become tidier since we have been married. AH!
