My Food Manifesto

Some days, I love getting in the kitchen and cooking up a meal for the family.

Other days, I admit, it just feels like a chore.

On those days it helps to have a philosophy of sorts to cling to. A reason you’re putting aside time to cook – whether it’s an elaborate meal or a twenty-minute main course accompanied by frozen sides – rather than running to the drive-thru or ordering pizza. A reason you call your kids to the table, the whole noisy crew at the same time, rather than letting them trickle in one by one or eat in the living room.

I started thinking about this one day when four o’clock rolled around and I had just about zero desire to do so much as open a can of soup. After all, it’s not enough to tell yourself “This is what I’m going to do.” To stick to it, you must also understand the why.

And thus, my Food Manifesto was born.

Nothing fancy. Just six simple declarative sentences, reminding myself what it is I believe about food, about family, and about mealtime. Something to reflect on for inspiration and motivation when I feel like throwing in the pot holder for good.
