Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and whether you want to pick something up for a special mom in your life or are hoping to drop some subtle hints to the gift-givers in your home, we thought a short list of last-minute gift ideas might come very much in handy. Go ahead: print this out and leave it lying around if you want!
We love these mugs from Anthropologie (mine is a gift from Sarah and I use it every morning!), and at $8 they are a sweet, personal and affordable gift for mom. (Plus, nobody will dare steal Mom’s morning tea or coffee when it’s so clearly monogrammed!)
2. “Favorite Things” goodie bag
Little kids who aren’t ready to shop for mom on their own can still help pick out a meaningful gift. To include toddlers and preschoolers in the process, take them to a store like Walgreen’s or Target (or even the grocery store) and pick out a few of mom’s favorite things: her favorite candy, a favorite magazine, nail polish in her favorite color, and a favorite snack or drink.
So, remember how I wrote a book? Yes, it’s still out there! In fact, I was very pleasantly surprised to stumble across The Happiest Mom: 10 Secrets To Enjoying Motherhood on a Target endcap recently. I had no idea it was even at Target until I started getting texts and Facebook messages from people who’d seen it there. Publishing is weird like that.
Look! There I am sharing space with the likes of Anne Lamott, Sheryl Sandberg, Maya Angelou and my friend Kelle Hampton! Pretty flattering.
Anyway, I just wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that The Happiest Mom: 10 Secrets To Enjoying Motherhood makes a fabulous gift – it’s reassuring, practical, beautiful to look at, and an easy read for overwhelmed or time-strapped moms. And you can pick it up at Target just a few aisles from the wrapping paper and pretty close to the snacks.
4. Make a movie just for mom
With video technology at our fingertips, it’s quick and easy to capture the kids talking about why they love mom. Try making a video “interview style” by asking kids to answer questions about mom and what they love and appreciate about her. (If you’re an iPhone user, this video sharing app featured on Cool Mom Tech looks like a great way to share your video with family near and far.)
You may have seen these beautiful scarves (pictured on Sarah, above) in our Holiday Gift Guide for moms, and we stand by them even going into the warmer weather (the fabrics are light and there are colors and patterns for every season). The purchase of a FashionABLE scarf supports a sustainable business in Africa, so this is a gift that goes beyond just looking good.
