It’s our Big Week Of Giveaways here at The Happiest Home! Check out all giveaway posts here, and read on for what we’ve got for you today…
These days, it’s double the fun when it comes to doll play in our house. My oldest, six-and-a-half, has always loved dolls. We’re the lucky owners of a giant bin of hand-me-down doll clothing, mostly from the American Girl line, and ever since her little fingers were coordinated enough she has loved changing her dolls’ outfits several times a day. While she pretends more sophisticated things like “school” and “daycare,” my youngest, nearly two, is just getting into the “babying” part of doll play. She loves pretending to feed her babies and put them to bed (but, like most toddlers, will gleefully toss a doll down the stairs in favor of a shiny object).
This Christmas we’re making a big leap: we’re getting the six-year-old her first American Girl doll. This fall we read the books that go with a couple of different characters, and she fell in love with Addy’s story most. Other than a Bitty Baby she got as a gift as a toddler, we’ve never bought from the AG line before. And while it’s certainly a splurge for us, I know from the hand-me-down dolls and clothes we have that the quality is great, and I know she’ll love the tie-in to the historical books we’ve enjoyed.
Somehow, we’ve never really owned any doll furniture – just a LOT of clothes and small accessories. That’s why I was so excited to try out One Step Ahead’s line of doll furniture – sized perfectly for American Girl (or any other 19-inch) dolls.
I fell in love with this bunk bed with trundle, pictured below, which comes with the bedding you see displayed (and has an option to personalize as well). The trundle slides out completely (it’s not attached to the rest of the bed), so it could also be played with as a separate twin bed. It took my husband about 20 minutes to put together, and the instructions and parts were all clearly labeled. The quality is such a step up from big-box-store plastic, so I know this piece will go the distance through my littlest one’s doll-playing years.
And since we already own so many doll clothes, I had to try the KidKraft Doll Armoire, too. It comes with six wooden doll-sized hangers, but probably has space for another 4-6 inside. We were really impressed with the quality of the magnetic door closures, wooden knobs, and little storage shelf for shoes at the bottom. So sweet!
I’m just thrilled with the quality and construction of these two pieces, and I know my six-year-old is going to LOVE having them to accompany her American Girl doll this Christmas.
Today we’re giving away the furniture you see here – the bunk bed with trundle and the armoire – to one lucky reader!
All you have to do is leave a comment below and be sure to put a valid email address in the field (Meagan and I are the only ones who will see it.) Iβd love to hear about the doll-lovers in your house. Have you gone down the American Girl path yet? What kind of make-believe do the dolls in your home get up to?
Fine print: The contest will run until Monday, December 15 at noon EST. Open to readers with addresses in the US and Canada only. No purchase necessary to enter or win. Winners will be contacted via email by December 16, 2014 and will have 48 hours to respond with an address before another winner is selected.
One Step Ahead provided me with one set of the doll furniture pictured above and a second set to give away. Opinions expressed are my own.
both of my kids love dolls, but my daughter does a lot more pretend play with them.
My girls are a bit young for dolls, but my boys actually play make believe with their stuffed animals. Since we just brought home a new baby, there has been a lot of “feed the baby” play happening.
My girls, 5 and 8, love dolls and have gotten into the American Girl dolls already.
My just turned 9-year old still loves to play with dolls (yay!) and she does have one American Girl Doll – Marie Grace. She likes to pretend play with her and dress her up in the few outfits she has for her.
My daughter is only 2 1/2 but has recently started dressing/undressing her doll and has started getting into pretend play. She’s too young to get an American Doll but I’ve thought about getting her another baby doll to help prepare her for Baby Brother coming in March!
We just got our daughter a “big girl” doll for her birthday – but a hand-me-down for now, so that she can practice on this one and get ready for a nicer doll down the line. I can’t wait until she’s better at changing her clothes on her own, since that task falls to me for now!
I have two daughters, aged six and three. They love playing with dolls, or really anything else they can “mother” (the six year got an stuffed Olaf doll for her birthday a few weeks that’s the current recipient of her affection). We have a hand-me-down Molly that takes turns being mothered by my girls. π
Ivy would love this!!! She has an American Girl doll and the Bitty Baby, but she’s never been to the American Girl Store. Of course she loves the catalogs. I’m hoping to take her to the one in Seattle someday!
Steph
I have two girls, 5 and 7, that LOVE dolls. We don’t have any American Girl dolls, but do have several Our Generation dolls (Target brand 18″dolls), and for Christmas my 7 yr old asked for all doll stuff including a closet for her doll’s clothes to keep them nice.
So cute!!!! My 3 year old would love these π
With three girls – and one on the way – I need all the girl loot I can get! Yes, we do have several American Girl dolls…!
I have three girls with one on the way…we need all the doll loot we can get! And yes we love American Girl dolls….Grandma buys them for Christmas.
My daughter just received an Alexander Girlz doll–18″–for her sixth birthday last month. We don’t have friends with American Girl dolls, so I don’t think she knows the possibilities, but I’m excited to get her clothes and accessories for Christmas (and an 18″ doll for her 3.5-y.o. sister, too).
My 7 year old daughter is asking for her first American Girl doll this year…I would love to win her the doll accessories as well she would be so excited! Thank you!
I have TWO girls who love dolls so we have a lot of all different brands of dolls. And no place to sleep them – they make little pads out of blankets every time they put them to bed. This is great because three dolls could sleep in one footprint. How cute.
My daughter loves her AG dolls – she would love the bunk bed with trundle for her 3 gals!
I have my old AG old from when I was a girl which is soon to be give to my daughter. It is amazing how much more AG stuff there is.
My daughter will LOVE this! She likes to pretend to be the Mommy to her dolls π
Cool! Our girls are probably getting their first 18″ dolls this year…
Our girls are 4, 2, and 9 month old. The two oldest love to play dolls together. The oldest has been asking for an American girl doll, hopefully in the near future she’ll get her wish. They would love this furniture!
We have four daughters (one newborn) who love dolls, so this trundle bunkbed would be perfect for them!
We love AG dolls. My daughter has saved her own money to purchase Her own doll. I am so excited that there are other furniture options!
Bitty baby is it at our house now, though I see an AG doll in the future with two daughters! Thanks for this opportunity!
My son just broke my older daughters doll bed so it can’t be passed down to my 2.5 year old and she loves baby dolls. I’d love to win her a new one.
My girls, 4 and 8, have a make shift American Girl doll land in our basement. They have reused Costco boxes and shelves to create it. This would be such a treat for them.
My daughter AND my son love dolls! My favorite thing is when they reenact school or storytime where they line up their dolls and animals and read to them. So cute!
My 5 year old loves dolls!
My 9 year old has loved her American Girl dolls since she received Bitty Baby as a gift from a grandparent at the age of 3. Her current favorite activity is to play house/school with her Bitty Twins. She takes such good care of them!
My little girl (will be 2 in Feb) is just getting started with dolls. She brought me her baby tonight while I was making dinner and said ‘hug!’ I gave the doll a little squeeze and a kiss and passed it back, and watcher her do the same. So sweet!
Our three-year-old daughter loves playing with her dolls, several of which I saved from when I was a girl and have passed on to her for Christmases and birthdays. I think at some point there will
Probably be an American Girl doll in her future. I used to devour those books and drool over the catalogs from the time they first came out!
We haven’t done any AG yet but my daughter is just getting into dolls.
We have lots of dolls, none from AG, yet. My youngest loves to have fancy tea parties with her dolls and she makes them houses out of what ever she can find.
My 3 year old daughter loves her babies and I am hoping her little sister (5 1/2 months) will too! These are some great items to play with and pretend with!
My six-year old daughter would love this!
Oh my goodness! I still have my Felicity doll tucked away safely from when I was little! After being surrounded by boy stuff, constantly stepping on painful little matchbox cars, I can’t wait to play dolls withy daughter. We have all the hand me down clothes too but no furniture. I always dreamed of having furniture for my dolls when I was little and would love them for my daughter’s dolls.
We are also buying our daughter her first American Girls doll for Christmas this year so this furniture would be perfect!
My girls both love dolls at 4 & 3, but we are holding off on American Girl until they are old enough to care π I’m looking forward to reading the stories with them. My now big nieces got so much enjoyment out of them.
My daughter would love this as she is getting a doll for christmas this year! She has 3 brothers that she shares toys with and this looks like one she’d have all for herself!
My girls are both 1 and are just starting to play with their dolls. They feed them and put them in the stroller. This would be a nice sturdy set, thank you for the opportunity!
I was obsessed with the AG dolls as a kid. Samantha was my favorite and my parents still have her and her little brass bed in their basement. My daughter just turned one and received several baby dolls for her birthday. She isn’t too interested in them yet but I hope to share with her soon the pleasure I took from playing make-believe with my dolls and stuffed animals.
My daughter just turned 2 last month and is already a doll loving caretaker and I’m so happy. I love to see her “tending” to her dolls, she would be thrilled with furniture to go along with her baby dolls.
My 4 year old brings her doll everywhere! In the car, to the store, even in an infant carrier at the restaurant. If it makes her happy, who cares where she brings her. Her 2 year old sister is quickly following. She wants a bunk bed for her doll and has been talking about it for months as well as a bunk bed for her and her sister! Great giveaway btw!
My 4 year old pretends to be the mom of my 6 year old, who will be grateful for furniture that does not fit him so he doesn’t have to play baby!
The dolls go on lots of vacations to Disney Land!
My six year old daughter loves her Our Generation doll, so we may have to venture down the AG path soon. I wish it weren’t sooooo pricey!
my little one loves dolls, but I wanted to wait a year or so before I got into the expense of american dolls
My daughter is 5 and is receiving a harmony club doll for Christmas. She would LOVE these to add to all the other items she has for her dolls.
We have gotten my oldest a Steals and deals AG doll and it is soooo pricey even on sale. I wish I could afford to get a bitty for my youngest.
My daughter is just beginning to really like dolls and treats them like babies. She would love this.
My daughter is a doll lover. She got Bitty Baby last year for Christmas, is getting the Bitty Twins this year and will probably get one of their Just Like You dolls next year:).
My daughter Emily has some American Girl dolls…two she purchased herself by saving her birthday & Christmas money. She would love any of the items above. She doesn’t have any furniture for her dolls. She makes her doll beds from a cardboard box. This would be a great surprise if she was chosen especially since she’s been working hard in school & she is on the Honor Roll & was Oct.band student of the month. Happy Holidays! !
I have a two year old who is really starting to pick up speed with the imaginative play. These would be a great gift for a future birthday or holiday.
my youngest granddaughter takes at least one doll with her everywhere in what she calls her doll bag…if she’s at the park the doll will ride all the rides with her the only thing she’s not allowed to do is play in the sand(grandma’s rule)
I’m a single mom to two biological daughters and two foster kids. This year has been really difficult as I first lost my job in January, then my unemployment and insurance ran out in August… If that wasn’t bad enough, I broke my femur in August, the day after my seven year old’s birthday and just three days before my new health insurance kicked in. Three screws, one surgery, and $40,000 later, I was released drom the hospital. All of the stress of the high debt coupled with the physical trauma of the break and surgery caused my rheumatoid arthritis to flare up, making every day tasks (such as helping my daughter dress her beloved dolls) impossible. If that wasn’t enough – a month ago, my hip started bothering me again. Turns out that the screws that they put in with surgery have broken and the only way to fix it is by having a total hip replacement. Right around Christmas time. The combination of being unable to drive in addition to being on a very tight budget has prevented me from really getting my children anything for the holidays.
My seven year old absolutely loves playing with her dolls. She makes up these complex, imaginative scenarios and her doll (an AG knock off) is the center of the games. She recently went to a playdate at a friends house and came home very excited, announcing that she was going to ask “santa” for a doll closet and bed. This broke my heart.
I had an AG Doll “Molly” (now discontinued) growing up and wish that I had kept her accessories as my daughters love dolls. Even my oldest will sit down with the younger ones to make up a play or act out a scenario.
In any case, that’s our story. Winning would truly be incredible; and would help keep the magic of santa alive.
My daughter got her first American Girl doll for her birthday last month. For Christmas she will be getting a Bitty Baby. She really wants to have a baby boy just like her baby brother.
My 7 year old is my little mama. She loves dolls and I got her the Little Golden Book, Little Mommy, a couple of years ago for Christmas because it fits her to a T. She has wanted an American Girl doll for the past three years for Christmas but it isn’t in our price range. She did get a Dollie and Me doll last year from Grandma and she loves her. She would love to win this for Christmas. I hope whoever wins will love and cherish the gift you are sharing this Christmas. Good luck to everyone!
Darling furniture! 7 y.o. daughter has a Bitty Twin and just got her first “big girl” doll this year. She loves ’em!
We love American Girl in this house but are always looking for less expensive quality alternatives.
This is a very cute set, and both my daughter and son would enjoy putting their soft toys and dolls to sleep in those beds, and I would really appreciate having a spot for all those babies clothes we use as dolls clothes. My daughter is getting interested in the American dolls, and enjoys learning about history through the American Girls books.
Thank you.
Have a great day.
My baby girl is only 6 mos old, but I just found my American Girls’ dolls at my parents’ house, ready and waiting for her!
My 5 year old daughter would love this set to go with the Canadian Maplea doll she is getting for Christmas!
My daughter is getting her first ag doll, and this would be great for her!

But she just turned 8 hahha So Trying to get the husband to be creative and make a doll bed this week before xmas wish us luck! I neer realized how pricey the AG items were until G-ma sent one our way. But seeing how crazy well shes held up they must be all made well which explains the price! hahahha Merry xmas!!!!!! Now back to houndin the husband santa lol
