Will you run a marathon with me?
No, not all at once! As far as I’m concerned, the very idea of running 26 miles in a single stretch sounds like sheer torture.
Actually, I’m not sure I’ve ever run more than a mile at one time, and the only way you could get me to now would be if zombies were in pursuit.
But if you, like me, went a little…uhh…soft over the summer – or just want to add more exercise to your routine this fall – here’s a great opportunity for us both to start getting fitter while also helping an awesome children’s hospital save lives.
I’m very excited to share that I’m serving as a lead blogger for the Miracle Marathon, in partnership with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. CMNH is an organization that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America. Donations stay in the community, helping local kids – that’s definitely something I can get behind.
And the Miracle Marathon is easy to participate in, too – it just requires you to move your body in some way, one mile a day, for 27 days. You’re probably already getting close to that amount of movement just by shlepping kids around – so, by participating, you can get a little healthier and help save kids’ lives.
I’ve teamed up with CMNH especially to support Beaumont Children’s Hospital in the Detroit area, and I’d like to take a minute to tell you more about it now.
Each year, Beaumont treats more than 100,000 children, offering innovative and compassionate care to kids ranging from teens with cancer, to little kids with broken bones, to preemies in need of extra-special care.
I’ve been impressed to find out more about what’s happening at Beaumont.
It’s probably no secret to you that the city of Detroit has struggled over the last several decades. And as in any hard times, when adults struggle, children suffer.
Although it’s technically located in the well-to-do suburb of Royal Oak, I was so impressed to see that Beaumont Health System works hard to serve the entire Detroit metro area – including those who need good health care the most and have the hardest time accessing it.
In fact, Beaumont helped found The Brightmoor Health Outreach Collaborative, an innovative alliance with legal, education, and religious organizations that offers free medical, dental and legal services to one of Detroit’s poorest neighborhoods.
Beaumont Children’s Hospital also goes above and beyond to make each child’s stay as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
One way they do this is through the Children’s Miracle Network Garden, an airy, whimsical 4,000-square-foot space that’s available to pediatric and neonatal patients and their families to watch movies and munch popcorn, celebrate holidays and pajama parties, and even take advantage of spa nights with manicures and facials.
If any of your children have ever spent time in the hospital, you know just how important those extra touches can be, both for a child and her worried parents.
I know you understand how important the work that Beaumont Children’s Hospital is doing, and I hope you’re feeling inspired to help make it possible for them to keep bringing great care to kids in the Detroit area.
Or, perhaps there’s a hospital in your own community that you’d like to support.
So I’m asking you to get involved: please join me this month in The Miracle Marathon!
The Miracle Marathon is an easy, flexible, 27-day virtual fundraising campaign that starts September 16 and ends October 12. Participants (that’s us!) will run, walk, hop, crawl, or dance one mile per day at our leisure (I’m not sure how one dances a mile, but if you can figure out a way to do it, it totally counts.)
The first 26 days are completed at your own pace, wherever and whenever you want. On Day 27, it would be awesome for us to do the final 1.2 miles at the same time, starting at 2:27 pm EST, with the rest of the Miracle Marathon participants.
If you join my team, I’ll set us up a special private discussion group where we can stay accountable and cheer one another on. Or you can create your own team and get friends in your community excited about supporting another Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
Either way, if you register as a Miracle Maker (you’ll receive fun swag, like a pedometer!), you can use my special code to get a 10% discount off registration: MiracleMeagan.
I’m about the least competitive person on the planet, but I think it would be awesome if this little community could pull together the BIGGEST #MiracleMarathon team of all to support Beaumont Children’s Hospital.
But if you have another hospital you’d like to support, it’s all good. The main point here is to register and start helping these hospitals save kids’ lives.
Join me! Register! And don’t forget to use the code MiracleMeagan for your discount.
Let’s get fitter together and help children at the same time. It’s the very definition of win-win, yes?
PS: Don’t have time to join the Miracle Marathon, but still want to help? Your donation is gratefully welcomed. Just search for “Team Happiest Home,” select our team, and donate! Thank you so much.
