Mindful Monday: Get ready for colder weather

How did everyone’s Mindful Monday intentions go last week? I have to say I was pretty encouraged by how much less nagging went on in our house last week. There were a few times when I blew it – almost always when I was tired, hungry, or had gotten overwhelmed because I didn’t stick to our routine – but on the whole, just being aware and mindful about not wanting to nag helped me nag a whole lot less. I know that I’ll never be perfect, so I’m trying not to beat myself up when I slip up -instead, I’m finding that the best way to deal when I hear myself nagging is to recognize it, resolve to do better next time, and move on.

This week, my Mindful Monday intention is all about practicalities:

WHAT: Get ready for colder weather.

WHO: All of us.

WHY: With the temps dipping down into wool-sweater territory a few times over the last week or so, it’s time to pull out all the jeans and sweaters, jackets, boots, mittens, and various colder-weather clothing and gear, and swap out the warm-weather stuff. While I’m in preparation mode, I’m also thinking about new organizing options for the kids’ clothes and other stuff (you can read about my 4 boys + 1 bedroom storage dilemma over at 4KidsOrMore) as well as how to make the most of our tiny entryway (currently, it’s in sad shape and only going to get worse when the kids start kicking snowy boots off in it.)

HOW: Pick one manageable task to tackle each day. For example, today I’m planning to pull out all the summer clothes and sort them into “store” and “donate” piles. Tomorrow I’ll deal with winter coats and boots, and make a shopping list for any pegs or storage things I need to buy for the entryway. Wednesday is grocery day, so I’ll add shopping for hooks or storage baskets into the mix. Thursday, I’ll set up the entryway. On Friday, I’ll probably just catch my breath.
