About The Happiest Home

Family life isn’t always pretty. Between the chaos of kids, those messes that never seem to get cleaned up all the way, and the kitchen that most decidedly does NOT look like it came from a Pinterest inspiration board, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities of family, home and motherhood – let alone carving out time for personal goals, creativity, careers and big dreams.

But while for most of us “home” doesn’t usually resemble a magazine spread, it’s still possible to make changes that make our surroundings, day-to-day lives, and relationships more satisfying. By taking care of ourselves, defining our values so we can focus on the things that matter to us (and forget the rest,) getting “organized enough”, and setting reasonable standards for ourselves and everyone around us, we can feel good about our homes and the people in them – while also stretching ourselves a little to think beyond our own four walls.

If you’re a fan of the former blog The Happiest Mom, you might be wondering what the change is all about. Think of this new space as an expansion, rather than a brand-new site. We’re growing together as women, stretching our wings, delving into new topics and ideas, and finding ways to incorporate all the parts of our lives into our experiences of motherhood and family. I’m excited and grateful to have you along for the ride! – Meagan

Who’s Who at The Happiest Home:

Meagan Francis, Publisher & Creator

Meagan Francis and Kids Hi! I’m Meagan, a writer and mother of five who has been honing the fine art of satisfaction during my fifteen-year evolution into a (usually) happy mom. Here on The Happiest Home, I share what I’ve learned–and am still learning–about life, family, motherhood, and the pursuit of happiness. I’m glad to have you here–and hope you stick around.

In addition to caring for my family, I work with words: as a blogger, writer, and author. My articles and essays appear regularly in publications like Parenting, Parents, American Baby, and Pregnancy and on websites like Babble.com and iVillage.

I’m the author of four books, including The Happiest Mom: Ten Secrets To Enjoying Motherhood, published in April of 2011. I live with my husband Jon and five kids in St. Joseph, MI, a lovely little city on Lake Michigan. You can also find me on Twitter.

Sarah Powers, Managing Editor

Hi, I’m Sarah, a writer, editor and mom to three. Here at The Happiest Mom I’m the Managing Editor as well as a regular contributor. I’m also Managing Editor for Scottsdale Moms Blog, a locally-based collaborative blog in my community, and my writing has been published in Raising Arizona Kids magazine and online at Babble.com. As a writer and a reader I am interested in the place where the serious and the silly intersect, because my life as a mom includes those big, powerful “aha!” moments and many, many small slices of hilarity in between — and I happen to think both can be instructive and meaningful. I love the world of online parenting writing for allowing moms to write, share and hear stories from from perspectives as varied as each of our experiences. I enjoy high ponytails, Broadway showtunes, and using my kids as an excuse to stay in and go to bed early, which I would do anyway. I was once–and this is totally true–a professional ballerina. You can find more of me on Twitter and on my personal blog, Powers of Mine.
